WY-Adapt Future Climate
Climate projections, tools, and data for Wyoming's future

What We Do

Explore how Wyoming's climate may change in the decades ahead. WY-Adapt Future Climate brings together climate projections for temperature, precipitation, snow, and climate extremes in a set of interactive tools designed for exploration, comparison, and analysis. Examine projected change across Wyoming, compare conditions across places and time periods, or build a dataset for your own work.
Understand projected change
Explore temperature, precipitation, snow, and climate extremes across Wyoming.
Compare places and variables
See how projected conditions differ across locations, time periods, and climate scenarios.
Get the data
Build and download climate datasets for your own research, planning, and analysis.

Applications

Choose the application that matches what you want to explore. Each tool provides a different way to work with Wyoming's future climate projections, from exploring one variable across places to comparing multiple variables or building a custom dataset. New to the tools? Each application includes an interactive guided tour to walk you through its features.

What People Are Saying

Perspectives from collaborators, educators, and partners working with WY-Adapt and WyACT.
“Allowing students 10 minutes to just play around on the WY-Adapt site was very interesting. They turned on and off layers of the map, toggled through past and future years to see what changes had happened or might still occur in their homes. It was eye-opening for them, and it also helped them make more relevant use of the information once the assessment was underway.”
Jules Craft
High School Science Teacher
“WY-Adapt is an incredible asset to my students and classroom, and using researcher methodologies in the field of phenology has provided an authentic data collection piece and revitalized the use of a native species biodiversity garden at our school. By comparing student-collected phenology data with climate data, my students were able to contextualize potential impacts of climate change in their local environment.”
Jenny Edwards
High School Science Teacher
“Students will often look at infographic or piece of data and freeze because they don’t know where to start. Using WY-Adapt has helped students build confidence in their data literacy and ability to grapple with big data. Starting local helped students to focus, then be able to zoom out and explore the bigger data without being daunted.”
Shawna Mattson
High School Science Teacher
“I increased my own knowledge and practice looking at WYAdapt data!”
K-12 teacher
“There’s lots of potential for using WyAdapt data in ways that are scalable for elementary students – it’s just a matter of deciding what, and how…”
K-12 teacher
“I loved the cleaner, simplified WyAdapt dashboard (climate compare).”

What Could Wyoming's Future Climate Look Like?

Explore how temperature, precipitation, snow, and climate extremes have varied in the past and how they are projected to change in the decades ahead. WY-Adapt Future Climate lets you investigate projected change across places, time periods, climate models, and future scenarios.
Explore Past, Present & Future
Put future projections in context by exploring historical and modeled climate conditions alongside projections for the decades ahead. Examine how temperature, precipitation, snow, and climate extremes vary across Wyoming and how those patterns may shift over time.
Understand Climate Projections
Climate projections aren't predictions of exactly what will happen in a particular year. They use climate models to explore a range of possible future conditions. Viewing results from multiple models helps show both the overall direction of projected change and the range of outcomes that may be possible.
Compare Possible Futures
Explore different climate scenarios to see how projected conditions vary across possible futures. Compare models, locations, and time periods to identify where projections agree, where they differ, and how the range of projected change evolves through the coming decades.
